William “Bill” Dean Poncer

William “Bill” Dean Poncer

1955 – 2021

William Dean Poncer (Bill) was born in Cincinnati, OH on February 9, 1955 to Robert L. Poncer and Sally Mae (Mullins) Poncer. He graduated from West High School in 1973 in Morristown, TN. He worked several jobs throughout the years; as manager to KY Fried Chicken, briefly at Genesco, and then started working at Rexnord/Matthews in Danville, KY. During this, he started helping others with their taxes out of his home around 1977. This eventually grew into a successful business of his own – Poncer’s Tax Shoppe. This business continued to grow because of Bill’s dedication and personal service. He wanted to see everyone succeed; not just as a business man, but as a personal friend. Bill never met a stranger.

Bill dearly loved and was devoted to his family, always there lending a hand wherever he could. But he was best known as fun-loving and exciting Billy Dean/ Brother/ Dad/ Uncle Bill/ Opa: Whether it was playing 8-Ball pool. Playing tag and shooting nerf guns with many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Playing a spirited and competitive card game of “Oh Heck”. Setting off the best and most top-notch fireworks at all the family gatherings. Cooking up his special sauce to submit in the family rib cook off. And so much more.

Bill. Loved. Fun.

Bill is survived by his mother, Sally Poncer of Danville KY; his wife Carolyn Iverson-Poncer of Lancaster KY. His son James Poncer (Mariam) of Fairborn OH; his brother John Poncer (Stacie) of Charlotte NC; sisters Debra Hoover of Winter Park FL; and Mary Brown (Dan) of Richmond KY.

He was a beloved Opa (grandfather) to Tim Poncer, Christina Minnie, Courtney Fields, Richard Short II, and Kyle Short. Great Opa to Justin Wages, Lily Ann Fields, and Larry Fields III. He was adored by all his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Father Robert Poncer, wife Kimberly Poncer, and son David Poncer.
