Danville increases class days on next school calendar
The Danville School Board voted unanimously to increase instructional days from 171 to 173 for the 2020-21 school calendar during its regular meeting Monday night.
The board previously discussed calendar options during its working session on Jan. 13, with a second option of increasing instructional days to 175. The school calendar committee recommended that the days be set at 173 for the upcoming school year.
Monday night, the board had no discussion about the calendar. However board member Lori Finke commented that she liked adding two more instructional days to the calendar.
“It follows our goals set forward in the strategic plan,” she said.
She added that this time next year, the board could evaluate the calendar and possibly increase the number of instructional days to 175.
The first day of school will be Tuesday, Aug. 11, and the last day is scheduled on Thursday, May 20, 2021.
There will be no school on Labor Day, Sept. 7; fall break, Oct. 5-9; Presidential Election Day, Nov. 3; Thanksgiving break, Nov. 26-27; winter break, Dec. 21 – Jan. 1; Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 18; President’s Day, Feb. 15; and spring break, April 5-9.
Professional staff days will be Aug. 4-7; Nov. 2 and 25; Jan. 4; and Feb. 12 (but this date could be used for the first make-up day if necessary.)
Other make-up days could be May 24 -31 and June 1-2, if needed.
